Does hot yoga fit into this program?  What is a calorie burned estimate for an hour of hot yoga, flow class?

I would just google that one ha ha. Yoga is okay yes as long as it isn't too hard (which would hinder the recovery or your workouts).

Hey Tracy, in a flow class you could burn anywhere from 200-650 cals (that was the highest I ever got in a 90 min very intense flow class that I was wearing my heart rate monitor in). I would say the average would probably be around 300 for a flow class.

Does a hot flow class burn more cal then "regular" flow - or just make you sweat more?

I'll inject my two cents on this. Yoga and calories burned is a hard one to gauge as it completely up to the instructor and the student. I used to teach and had a couple athletes come in with HR monitors and their calculators would guess between 300-500 cals in a 90 minute class, but those calculators kind of think you are running during that time.

I always banked on it being about 200 if I thought the class was easy, more like 300 if it was hard. (i.e sore the next day).

I think, for this program, that it doesn't matter as much as the calorie targets are ignoring any workout stuff you do. (I believe, check with M&M on that)

I agree Patrick, Yoga is something that is completely dependant on the instructor and the student.

Lindsay, when it comes down to it the purpose of a hot flow class isn't to burn more calories than a regular one. The heat is to help with getting deeper into the poses and with detoxification (through sweating). That being said, the heat can make a class feel much more challanging, but I don't know that you are actually burning anymore calories.

When it comes to yoga I think it is most important to choose a class that works best for you and that you enjoy Smile
